Planchette on a board: Illusion or Reality?
The setup
The method
The existence of spirits and the underworld has been a topic of debate for centuries. People from all over the world in various times by various means have claimed to have made contact with the dead. While Science is still pursuing the truth behind these kind of encounters, the average Joe is still left clueless as to whether spirits really exist. Doubts and curiosities of this kind led me to try my hand at one of the most popular means of speaking with the spirits, Planchette!
To facilitate the process, three of us wrote down all the alphabets of English from A to Z, and the numbers 0 to 9 in a circular way on a mirror. Well, it doesn't really have to be a mirror, it just has to be a plain, smooth surface. We even wrote down the words 'Yes' and 'No' for the convenience of the spirits. Then we placed an inverted bowl at the center of the circle, and touched it lightly with our index fingers. Next, we asked the Devil to come and give us a sign. It took a while, but finally the bowl began to shake. We confirmed the Devil's presence by asking him if he is there observing that the bowl moved towards 'Yes'. Once confirmed, we requested the Devil to send the spirits of some people we knew, one by one. We confirmed their presence by asking questions and receiving satisfactory answers.
The entire process led me to believe that there was definitely something supernatural that was going on that night. However, it remains to see if the spirits that came and 'talked' to us really belonged to the people we called, or it was the devil who was impersonating them. This was my first planchette, so many questions remained within my mind. Although some of the answers made me think over and over again, that when we die, we either turn into spirits or we don't, but there is something that is not so good after the worldly life is over, and if there is any place called heaven, it is the world that we live in.
